Some of this episode came across as apologetic in nature. Somehow I doubt that if Romney was a Jehovah's Witness that some of the participants would have bent over backwards to excuse him like they did simply because he's Mormon.

Excellent point on what the temple covenant actually covers.

But I get the message that you guys still think that Romney has a chance of getting elected president? Wow!! I don't think evangelicals/baptist will ever trust a Mormon especially a Mass. millionaire who was until very recently pro-choice. He had a better chance as a democrat!

And shouldn't a stake president/bishop be pro-life except in cases of life/heath of mother at risk or rape/incest? If yes, why was he OK as a pro-choice person anyway? (and he obviously was like #1 says here) and what did he do when a Bishop went to him and said 'President Romney, sister X had an abortion because she's pro-choice.....' ? Weired this?

Surely as a Stake President he would have come across cases of abortion (at least 2 or 3 per year like we do here) in his stake especially considering that every Bishop has to get approval from the Stake President to hold a court (called court back in early 90's). And he was stake president for some, what, 8 years? and in a large stake like Boston, surely he would have come across abortion during his church duties? before he ran against Kennedy.

There's something fishy in all of this pro-life/pro-choice Romney issue.

Listening to the abortion aspect of this conversation it seems to me that the panel members that downplay Romney's previous pro-choice opinion weren't listening to him when he expounded that opinion. I paid close attention to the gubernatorial debates in MA and felt that his support of the pro-choice position was genuine and long-held. Now I look back on that and doubt it but at the time he really sold me on it. He certainly didn't come across as not having put much thought into the matter, despite what some panelists here might say.
